Christina Pretty

B.A., Associate ISTD (Tap)

Christina started dancing at Sorensen School of Dance (SSOD) at the age of 4, and she was thrilled to join the creative team in September 2010. Christina has trained heavily in tap and, in May 2010, was successfully examined at the Associate level in Tap with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD). She has completed other exams with the ISTD, including her Advanced 2 Tap, Advanced 1 Modern, and, in May 2013, Advanced 2 Modern. In 2012, Christina was also awarded the ISTD 2012 Tap Award with Distinction.

Christina has trained outside of the province on several occasions. In 2009, she was a recipient of the Dance Teachers' Association of Newfoundland’s scholarship. She used this scholarship to travel to Chichester, England, to study at the ISTD’s Teacher Summer School. In 2010, she travelled to New York City to attend The Pulse Teacher Workshop. She travelled to New York City again in July 2012 to take class at the Broadway Dance Centre. While living in Japan for two years, Christina had the opportunity to learn a traditional Japanese dance called Nishimonai Bon Odori. Most recently, Christina returned to London, England in August 2015 to attend the ISTD summer school to study tap. Christina is currently working on her Associate Diploma.

In addition to her Dance training, Christina is also a graduate of Memorial University where she completed her Bachelor of Arts. She is currently back at Memorial completing her Diploma in Geographic Information Sciences. I look forward to having Christina on board at SSOD again this year!
